Master Of Flying
Dragon flies are known for their unbelievable hunting abilities. They can move and rotate of each their four wing's independently. Dragon flies can fly backward's, up and down. They can turn on a dime and can hover, all contributing to their unique flying abilities.
Habitat
Dragon flies are large colourful insect's usually found near fresh water such as river bank's, canal's, ditches, pounds and lake's. Their small relative's damselflies are also found in this habitat. They like to live in wet place's. Dragon flies live most of their life under water.
Great Hunters
Dragon flies can catch up to 95% of their prey in mid-air. A rate described as wildly high compared where the most predator's are. Dragon flies can track and isolate their prey in swarm. They can track of each prey position in swarm. When a dragon fly singles out the target, they are able to capture it with colliding with other member of the swarm. They are able to spin 360 degree on axis. They prey upon butterflies, mosquitoes, bees, moths, flies and even on other dragon flies. mosquitoes and midges are most often targeted.
Life Under-water
Dragon flies live most their life in larval stage under water. Their larval stage known as nymph. Their nymph live for several year's under water. during this stage they became fierce predators feeding upon small insect's. Their larval stage is very complex. Their life under water is dependent upon their specie. This long and tough time in water accumulate mercury in their bodies making them great representation of that area.
Aerial Acrobatics
Dragon flies hunt other flying insect's in air due to their great hunting abilities. Dragon flies rotate and move each of their four wing's in any direction. This ability help them to fly backward, up and down. They can turn at a time and can hover, These all contributing to their great flying abilities. These all make them exceptional hunters as they can pursue and capture their prey in mid air. Their aerial prowess is supported by their two pair of wing's which give them and unparalleled range of motion and control.
Breeding
As these dragon flies are unique, their mating method is also unique. The male first transfer sperm from near the tip of his abdomen to accessory genitalia near the top of abdomen. He then grasp the female by the back of the head with his abdominal claspers. After mating the female will often lay her eggs while still holding on to the male or while the male guard's her from predators. The egg's are normally dropped directly into water, on inside aquatic plant's or into the damp ground's near water. A female can lay thousand of eggs in her life time. Over few days or weeks tiny creatures with six legs, wing-sheaths, hinges jaws and ability to breath in water will emerge from these eggs.
