Tiny Primates With Big Eye's
Tarsier are only entirely carnivores primates that prey on insect's, lizard's and snake's. They have biggest eye's relative to their body size among other animal's. Tarsier have human like round pupil's that are able to constrict very strictly about half millimeter. Their hands are thought to be the longest over every living primate relative to their body size. These extremely elongated hand's and used for clinging and gripping despite the lack of opposable thumb's. They are one of the oldest and smallest primate. They are existed since 45 millions years ago.
Tarsier Habitat
Tarsier live in Island's, Rain forest's, Scrub forest's, and in agricultural area. They are tree huger and spent most of their time in trees. They are carnivores and ear small invertebrates like spider, lizard and many insects. They have special eye rod which make their eye vision better in dark. They also make food in night.
Tarsier Physical Abilities
Tarsier can leap distance of 5.4 meters. They rotate their head 180 degree in each direction which allow them to rotate their head in 360 degree. Tarsier have large eye's and hand's, padded finger tips, a tail twice long as their bodies which help them to grip on branche's. They have large tarsal or ankle bone's, and a head which can rotate 180 degree. The tips of their digits expand to disk like adhesive pad's, which increase their grip. Tarsiers are great hunter's instead of their small size. They have great sense of hearing due to large ear's like bat. They have strong grip and take long leap up to 16 feet in a single bound. This help them to catch the bird's.
Tarsier Breeding
These tiny primates breed twice in year and copulation occur during either May or November. The gestation period is about 6 month's. Female tariser give birth to single offspring which is fully furred and opened eyes. The mother carry the baby in their mouth or or on the back's either they able to leap on their own. The male can't play any role in rearing but they protect them and work as guard.
Social Life Of Tarsier
Tarsier are generally solitary creature. They call each other using range of vocalization, including high pitch sound's that can be heard over large distance. Tarsier exhibit variation in social system between species. Some species of tarsier are noticed to live alone. They only mate in mating season. Their social structure are relatively loose compare to other primate's. They mostly live in group and their group will expand during dry season.
