Amazing Adaptation of Tortoise And Turtle

Tortoise and Turtle's are not the same specie's, there is a slight differences among them. These creature's are known as the oldest and ancient creature on land. It is estimated that these creature's are from dinosaur 🦕 time, over 200 millions years ago.

Turtles

Turtle's like to spent most of their time in water. They are great swimmer's. They have slightly different shape then tortoise. They breath air but they have natural ability to remain sub-merged for hour's. They also sleep in sea. Most turtle spent their whole life in sea and come only to beach nest in order to lay egg's. They were faster then tortoise. They swim with the speed of 24 km/h.

Sea Turtle's

Sea turtle's are marine reptile's like logger head and leather back. There are slightly less difference between turtle's.

Fresh Water Turtle's

Specie's such as the Red-Eared slider and Painted turtle's are founded in fresh water like pond and turtle's.

Semi-aquatic turtles like the diamond back turtles. They were semi aquatic means they live on both land and water.

Function Of Turtle Shell

The turtles shell is an adaptation that protect it from predator's, which compensates for the reptile's slow crawling. The carapace and plastron (upper and lower part of shell) each arose from two type's of bone's: Dermal bone's that form in the skin and endochondoral bone derived from the skeleton. The shell of turtle's also used in our daily life in form of decorative boxes, comb's, ear rings and in jewelery.

Turtle Respiratory System

The respiratory system of turtle is like other reptile's. They have lung's. They have slightly different lung's then other mammalians. Their lung's are located right under the carapace and the vertebral column. Turtle's have unique abdominal muscle based ventilatory apparatus. Turtle's can't breathe under water but they can hold their breath for long time under water.

Breeding Of Turtle's

Copulation may involve shell bumping and the male may nod hid head squeal and grunt. In general, turtle's lay their first egg for about 3-6 week's after mating. Before laying egg's they make nest on land. They only come to land for egg's. Female lay 1-9 clutches of egg's per second. They lay 1900-2300 egg's in their life time. Female turtle's may develop egg's even if they were not mated.

Tortoise

Tortoise have special feature's for survival. A tortoise live on land. They have hard shell that protect it from predator's. They also remain in their shell for long time. They are able to empty out their lung's to survive for a long time without having to breath. Tortoise have club like foreleg's and elephantine like hind leg's. They were very slow then turtle's. They walk with the speed of 0.3 - 0.5 km/h. They are slow but they were very strong that their leg's can push extra weight.

Galapagos Giant Tortoise

Galapagos are known as giant tortoise. Their weight is about 500 pound's. Their life is about up to 100 year's. The largest turtle was recorded as 175 year's old.

Aldabra Tortoise

Aldabra tortoise are second largest tortoise. Their weight is about 300-350 pound's. They also live up to 100 year's. Their shell stripes are very iconic.

Leopard Tortoise

Leopard tortoise are one the most unique and beautiful tortoise in world. The colour pattern on their shell is like fur of leopard.
